On November 20-22, 2019, the WESTPAC Ocean Oxygen Working Network (O2NE) held its first workshop in Manila. The Ministry of Fisheries, Republic of Korea, and PEMSEA, as well as IOC-WESTPAC, generously funded this project. Ms. Aimee Gonzales (PEMSEA) and Dr. Gil Jacinto (UP Marine Science Institute) worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a success.
The first workshop aimed to bring together scientists and experts working on deoxygenation from across the region to form an ad-hoc working group to help with deoxygenation issues in the region. Standard operating procedures, methodologies, opportunities for collaboration, research updates, and ways to move forward with the network were all discussed over the course of the three meeting days.
