IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC)

Advancing knowledge and cooperation for a healthy ocean and prosperous society

Our UN Ocean Decade Actions

IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESPTAC) has been taking the lead in the region, motivating and engaging experts, institutions, and countries in the preparation and development of the Ocean Decade. In addition to providing technical and strategic support to Member States, the Sub-Commission develops, coordinates, mobilizes, and implements the Ocean Decade related Actions and activities, including the Ocean Decade Kick-off Conference for the region.

Meanwhile, WESTPAC has taken a co-designed, solution-oriented approach to the development and implementation of 4 WESTPAC-led UN Ocean Decade Actions with close cooperations of Member States and key stakeholders, and more Decade Actions are expected to be developed based on the common interests of Member States. Furthermore, the Sub-Commission is encouraged to establish meaningful partnerships with other UN Decade Actions (programmes and projects), especially those which have a focus on the region and are willing to join the collective efforts addressing priority issues in the region.
