Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for OA monitoring
Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for monitoring the ecological impacts of ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystems
To ensure that the data collected are comparable within and among countries and that the monitoring systems could be sustainable, we, with technical assistance from the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), develop a set of consistent, comparable, and cost-effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for monitoring the impacts of ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystems in the Western Pacific and adjacent regions.
SOPs for monitoring the ecological impacts of ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystems
Chapter 1: General consideration for the overall design of OA monitoring
Chapter 2: SOPs for monitoring seawater carbonate chemistry
- Introduction
- Part I: Seawater sampling for pH and Total Alkalinity Analysis
- Part II: Determination of the pH of seawater using the indicator dye M-cresol purple
- Part III: Determination of Total Alkalinity (TA) of seawater by titration
Chapter 3: SOPs for monitoring reef biodiversity using Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures (ARMS)
Chapter 4: SOPs for monitoring carbonate accretion using Calcification Accretion Units (CAU)
Chapter 5: SOPs for monitoring erosion balance using Bioerosion Monitoring Units (BMU)
