With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Prof. Dato’ Dr. Zulfigar Yasin, a distinguished marine biologist at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and an internationally renowned scholar.

For over three decades, he dedicated his life to the study, conservation, and advocacy of marine biodiversity. His pioneering research and unwavering commitment played a crucial role in advancing marine science in Malaysia and beyond, fostering international collaboration among students, researchers, and institutions.

Beyond his remarkable achievements in science, Prof. Zulfigar was a mentor, a brother, and a dear friend to many. His warmth, wisdom, and wit left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passion for the ocean was unmatched, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
