Advancing knowledge and cooperation for a healthy ocean and prosperous society
Remote sensing can provide much greater and more detailed coverage of the ocean than would be possible to obtain solely by conventional observations. With the advance of its technologies, remote sensing has got a wide range of applications in the study and conservation of ocean, seas, and marine resources.
In partnership with the Burapha University(BUU), Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) of Thailand, and Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO), the IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC) plans to conduct a series of webinars on ocean remote sensing to further promote its applications to the sustainable development of ocean, marine and coastal resources. The webinars will be held during 22 November – 20 December 2022, with financial support of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for UNESCO.
The primary objective of the webinars is to facilitate an exchange of knowledge and development practices about ocean remote sensing applications between ocean remote sensing communities and relevant ocean stakeholders such as researchers, resource managers and policy/decision makers in the region; and to develop opportunities for member states in the region to increase their capacity for applying remote sensing to the conservation and sustainable development of marine and coastal resources.
