Advancing knowledge and cooperation for a healthy ocean and prosperous society

Call for Ocean Literacy Experts

In light of the decision made at the Fifteenth Intergovernmental Session of the IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC-XV, 11-13 March 2025, Tokyo, Japan), the Sub-Commission has established the Intersessional Task Force on Ocean Literacy with the view to advance the development of ocean literacy in the Western Pacific and its adjacent areas.

This open-ended Task Force will consist of experts recommended by Member States and/or relevant communities, coming from diverse and relevant disciplines and interested parties reflecting the multi-stakeholder nature of ocean literacy, including government agencies, educational and research institutions, the private sectors, foundations, and Early Career Ocean Professionals.

We are looking forward to receiving recommendations or nominations of qualified experts from your country or relevant communities. Recommended or nominated experts should have proven experience in ocean literacy research or practice with a strong willingness to advance ocean literacy collectively. Please submit the recommendations or nominations along with the experts’ CVs, to the WESTPAC Office at iocwestpac@unesco.org, preferably no later than 16 June 2025.
